Simply Ecology: Developments.
The majority of our clients contact Simply Ecology to assist them with new developments and the planning process. Our surveys and reports identify how to successfully conserve and incorporate habitats and wildlife into the development.
Example 1
The Issue : Development of a former manufacturing site required ecological assessment to determine its nature conservation value. The assessment had to take into consideration a SSSI, canal habitat, bats, badgers and water voles within the proposed development.
Solution : Assessment of the site was undertaken and additional badger and bat surveys were recommended to determine the appropriate level of mitigation needed. Proposals included retention and creation of suitable habitats within the site to ensure minimal impact upon the wildlife.
Example 2
The Issue : Development of a community football complex required ecological assessment to determine its nature conservation value. Mitigation plans were required to incorporate the conservation of protected slow worms and water voles within the proposed development.
Solution : Surveys of the site were undertaken and a fully fenced enclosure and clearance of the species from within the site was recommended. The early creation of suitable alternative habitat was necessary to ensure that the populations would not be adversely affected.
Example 3
The Issue : Development of a former industrial site required full assessment of buildings for roosting bats. The buildings were due for demolition.
Solution : Full survey of all the buildings was undertaken to search for signs of bat activity and also to assess the buildings for their potential suitability for bats. Recommendations included careful hand-removal of roof tiles prior to demolition, retention of suitable habitat and mitigation measures to enhance both habitat and roosting potential of the site within the development.
